$11.65 Cat Stevens' final album as a pop performer (before his conversion to Islam and subsequent rejection of most of the wicked ways of the material world) is something of a return to his early '70s form. It reunites him with TEA FOR THE TILLERMAN producer Paul Samwell-Smith, and like that early classic it's gorgeously arranged, with discreet strings and a terrific command of dynamics (as in the whisper-to-a-scream "Randy"). Other highlights include the uncharacteristic ...

Izitso songs
$26.79 THREESOME is a limited edition and compiles the albums; DON'T ASK DON'T TELL, GOT NO STRINGS and MEXICAN STANDOFF.
In 2005, the ever-ambitious Michelle Shocked made a move that put even the most prolific artists to shame, releasing three albums of new material simultaneously. Though all three bear Shocked's unique stamp, they're all radically different from each other. Two are rather conceptual affairs; MEXICAN STANDOFF is a stylistic showdown between T-Bone Walker-style blues and rootsy Mexican music, and GOT NO STRINGS features jazzy, bluegrass-tinged covers of songs from beloved old Disney movies. DON'T ASK DON'T TELL doesn't have any grand theme, and contains the largest amount of the kind of quirky, amiable folk-rock Shocked fans have come to know and love. Taken individually, these three albums are journeys into different musical territories led by the same tour guide. However, THREESOME packages the trio together, and taking the albums as disparate parts of a whole, it becomes all the more apparent both how complex, eclectic, and adventurous Shocked can be, and how consistent her artistic vision remains. In the wake of this rush of creativity, it was truly impossible to predict where the mercurial singer/songwriter would be headed next.
MICHELLE SHOCKEDThere are three things you need to know about Michelle Shocked. Number one, she possesses an outsized ambition; number two, she abhors unfinished business; and number three, she has a thing for the number three. These factors play into Shocked’s latest artistic explosion, a trilogy of albums recorded simultaneously during a sustained burst of overdriven creativity in December and January, each one hewing to a particular stylistic concept…sort of (let’s allow the girl some poetic license here). Just as audaciously, she’s releasing the three albums simultaneously. Most artists wouldn’t even conceive of such an undertaking, let alone see it through — but Michelle Shocked isn’t most artists. Dancing to the beat of her own wild heart and soul, she nimbly negotiates the tightrope that stretches between here and heaven, working without a net.The trilogy is hardly a new concept to this single-minded artist. After all, she started her recording career with three stylistically distinct albums in Short ...

$11.39 When life knocks you down do you have to stay down? Do you have to believe that your whole life is going to be hard just because bad things have happened in the past? Or because of what someone else has said about who they think you are??In Shanti’s new CD, Fade to Red, she reminds us that whatever rocks have been thrown at us in the past, don’t have to knock us off our path. By acknowledging these rocks as challenges, they can, instead, be the rocks we use to build the path to our dreams. We can learn from those hits and choose the right person; choose to be loved; choose to have a better life- better than what we have had or what our family has had.For example, as in the featured song, “AyAyAy”, sometimes we find ourselves in a relationship where we are so into someone that we will do anything for ...
