Son of Sam is like prog-Misfits, progressing in many directions. The unique collaboration of Danzig guitarist Todd Youth, Samhain/Tiger Army drummer London May, and Samhain drummer features vocalist Davey Havok (AFI). He sometimes reaches cartoonish proportions in his diction that gives the group an Alice Donut feel. At other times they offer Sonic Youth-like art noise ("Evernight"), while at other times they tread very near to classic rock. The title track is very much in the classic Misfits vein. ~ Tom Schulte

Songs From The Earth Music Son Of Sam Songs From The Earth Songs Songs From The Earth Music Review Average Rating: (4.4 out of 5 stars) great This release is a real winner for anyone who likes the Horror Rock/Punk Rock genre. Typically I listen to only death metal but Davey Havok has such a great voice that is perfect for this type of music and Todd Youth's guitar playing is really worth listening to. There really aren't any dogs on this album.
It's a little different than say the Misfits or AFI's sound, there's a little more of a hard rock/metal edge to it, but it clearly shows it's roots in punk.
THis release was meant to be a "one time thing" but they do have a 2008 release out without Havok on vocals.

Dark music for dark times... This is an excellent and stirring record, that showcases neatly the varying talents of some of Son of Sam's famous members.
It draws on a range of other influences (Misfits/AFI/punk/metal etc. and packages them together as a symbiotic whole).
There are some very good songs to be found on this record. It'd be four stars, but I can't honsetly say that all the tracks are particularly original! Submitted by Luke (Glasgow, UK) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

"songs from the earth...for us" hm..well, I think it's a really good album from them...but they can do a better if they want... My fav singer is Davey Havok that's why I could find this CD. The songs are very similar to AfI's (before the "Sing the sorrow")I think, but a bit better. The best song for me is Michael, if I hear it I always bacome happier. Better then AFI Well now that AFI has gone to total crap and changed their music, this is the last cd where you will hear Davey Havok at his best, and no im not saying AFI have sold out. I dont have to say it, its totally obvious! Submitted by a reviewer (Bonney Lake, WA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 0 of 2 found this helpful.

Songs From The Earth album
$11.39 In this day and age when the Misfits skull logo t-shirt is a common sight in discerning shopping malls across the country, it almost seems impossible to conceive of a time when the boys in black couldn't get a record deal to save (or lose) their souls. Yet this was the case with STATIC AGE, which is the recorded output of one of the earliest Misfits lineups. For years this album was only a rumor (although many of its tracks were collected on LEGACY OF BRUTALITY); it's presented here in the form the band originally intended.

Songs From The Earth CD music
$14.05 Had you dared to suggest back in the late '80s that Napalm Death -- not one of their supposedly more stable peers -- would be the ones to survive through thick and thin and become elder statesmen of extreme metal, you might have been laughed right out of the meat market. But here they are, still thriving decades on from grindcore's violent birth and 11 (that's 11!) studio albums into their career, despite continued challenges like the long-mooted, now seemingly official, departure of long-serving guitarist Jesse Pintado after a decade of work alongside mainstay Mitch Harris. Of course with this elder statesmen status comes the matter of (cough!) maturity, and that right there may be the single word that defines 2005's The Code Is Red...Long Live the Code, whether Napalm likes it or not. It also serves as the dividing line between those fans who have either stuck with or recently discovered the band, and those for whom Napalm Death may as well have died an excruciatingly painful, er, napalm death after releasing those two grindcore-defining first albums: Scum and From Enslavement to Obliteration. The latter are encouraged to take a hike ...
