Although 1982's COMBAT ROCK signaled the last time the original lineup of the Clash would record together in the '80s, 1985's CUT THE CRAP was officially the band's last gasp of that decade. After COMBAT ROCK, crafty songwriter and experimentalist ... Full DescriptionMick Jones was forced out of the Clash--going on to form the outstanding hip-hop/rock hybrid Big Audio Dynamite--and drummer Topper Headon was similarly exiled. Remaining Clashers Joe Strummer and Paul Simonon recruited Nick Sheppard, Pete Howard and Vince White in an attempt to keep the band alive and kicking.
The resulting CUT THE CRAP seems more attached to Strummer's eventual solo efforts than a real Clash album; despite Strummer's determined effort, in many ways the band seems to be a lonely shadow of its more volatile self. While the glorious, grating Stummer vocals enliven tracks like the reggae-tinged "This Is England" and the anthemic "Movers & Shakers," the absence of the more melodically inclined Jones is clearly noted. Although CUT THE CRAP features the Clash's usual, heady mix of politics and punk, it falls somewhat short of the band's outstanding classics THE CLASH and LONDON CALLING.
Remastered mid-price reissue of their final album, originally released in 1985. Featuring the classic 'This Is England'and as a bonus track, it's b-side, 'Do It Now'. 2000 release. Standard jewelcase.
Recorded in Munich, Germany.

The Clash: Joe Strummer (vocals, guitar); Nick Sheppard, Vince White (guitar); Paul Simonon (bass); Pete Howard (drums).

Cut The Crap album
$11.19 Digitally remastered by Bob Ludwig (Gateway Mastering Studios).
Three years after releasing 1983's UNDERCOVER, the Rolling Stones returned to the studio to record DIRTY WORK. During the band's sabbatical, Mick Jagger had released his solo debut SHE'S THE BOSS, sparking resentment from Keith Richards, who did not approve of Jagger making music outside of the band. A notable distinction of DIRTY WORK is Ron Wood's collaboration with the Jagger/Richards songwriting axis on four songs, "One Hit (To The Body)", "Fight," "Had It With You" and the title track, which may have been code for the Glimmer Twins' then-strained relationship.
Since Stones recording sessions are always special events, a number of famous guests made cameos on this 1986 release. Among them are Stones heroes Bobby Womack and Don Covay, Tom Waits, Jimmy Page and producer Steve Lillywhite's wife Kirsty MacColl. Despite any infighting, the Stones continued their history of interesting cover choices. A minor 1964 hit by Bob and Earl hit the top five for the Stones, while Half Pint's "Too Rude" continued the band's love affair with reggae.
DIRTY WORK includes an unlisted instrumental track.

Cut The Crap album
$42.05 Of course, it is the group's chart hits that stand out here, and for good reason. The collection's title cut, and "Poison Arrow" (an early MTV video sensation) are near-perfect pop songs. Likewise, the lilting electro-ballad "Be Near Me," the Smokey Robinson homage "When Smokey Sings" (which appropriates the riff from "Tears of a Clown"), and the catchy bounce of "How to Be a Millionaire" push all the right pleasure buttons. A winner as both a hits collection and a comprehensive career overview, LOOK OF LOVE is the definitive ABC disc to own.
This deluxe Sound and Vision release of Look of Love: The Very Best of Abc comprises 30 tracks on double CD including all of the hits plus rare 12 inch mixes and two tracks on CD for the very first time. The DVD (PAL / Region 0) 'Absolutely Abc' includes 14 promotional videos mixed in 5.1. One of the defining acts of the early 1980's, ABC are still regarded as one of the most talented ensembles of this time and their first album The Lexicon Of Love is still thought of as a classic of the era. Included here from Lexicon are the brilliant tracks 'The Look Of Love' (UK No. 4), 'Poison Arrow' (UK No. 6) and 'Tears Are Not Enough' (UK No. 19). Other top 40 singles featured here include the Sheer Chic Mix of 'The Night You Murdered Love', 'One Better World' and 'SOS'. Often championed as the purveyors of perfect pop, ABC were formed in late 1980 by vocalist/songwriter Martin Fry and guitarist Mark White, with saxophonist Steve Singleton, drummer David Robinson and bassist Mark Lickley completing the original five piece line up. With a mission to re-invent disco music and make pop more ridiculous and less pompous the band were snapped up by Phonogram Records and less than a year later found themselves at No. 19 in the UK charts with their debut 45 Tears Are Not Enough (the demo version of which is included ...
