| | Whitney Houston I Look To You CD (2009)
Latin Hip Hop Hits
$13.65 Despite her star having lost some of its luster in the 2000s, Whitney Houston is still regarded as a benchmark for modern singers of all stripes (from soulful divas to would-be pop idols). Almost seven years in the making, 2009's I LOOK TO YOU marks a music industry homecoming for the singer. Supported by a mob of A-list producers and songwriters including Diane Warren, David Foster, R. Kelly, Alicia Keys, and many more, Houston's vocals are in fine form on material ranging from hip-hop-tinged contemporary R&B ("Million Dollar Bill") to `70s covers (Leon Russell's "A Song for You") to adult contemporary torch songs ("I Look to You"). It's only been seven years between Just Whitney and 2009's I Look to You, not even Houston's longest time between albums, but it feels much, much longer, her glory days obscured in hazy memories of lost luster chiefly deriving from a bad marriage with Bobby Brown, chronicled in an embarrassing reality show for Bravo in 2004. I Look to You attempts to wash this all away with something of a return to roots -- a celebration of Houston's ...

| | rocketscience Girls Name Here CD (1999)
Latin Hip Hop Hits
$10.15 Rocket Science is a band lost in a time warp. In 1999 it was still acting as if grunge were the thing to be. The loud-guitar sound and ultra-manly vocals firmly place Rocket Science in the camp of grungy overdrive and power; they even lapse into heavy metal riffing at times. The band Rocket Science sounds most like Stone Temple Pilots at their poppiest. If that is the kind of group you wish you had more records by, then this one's for you. Most fans of modern-day guitar rock will find this record, despite its few strong moments, to be lacking in originality. The record suffers from sameness between the songs and the way they were recorded; only "Sun," with its nice, doo wop-inspired melody and lush background vocals, makes any kind of impression. A Girl's Name Here is also weighted down by clunky lyrics, mostly on the non-sexy sex song "Pedastool," but also on the kiss-off song "Bitter Pill." This record would have been weak during grunge's heyday; this many years later it is even more non-essential. ~ Tim Sendra
"Rocketscience...It's honest to goodness Rock for a girl and a boy... It's not rocket science...Well actually it is!!!" Rocketscience, the undeniable kings of the Boston pop music scene are on a roll. Equipped with their CD release A Girls Name Here and a killer live show, this band is poised to be one of the best acts to come out of Boston in quite some time. Mixing up hooky well written pop songs, clever lyrics, and soulful vocals proves not to be rocketscience for these four young lads. This groups energy and charisma oozes from every song and every performance.Formed in Boston in 1998, Rocketscience was born in the ashes of local rockers Waiting Kates. With deep rooted influences ranging from The Beatles to Led Zeppelin, Otis Redding to Lenny Kravitz, Weezer to Nirvana the Scientists set out with a new pop vision. Rocketscience made their way into the studio with Producer Scott Riebling (Letters to Cleo, Weezer). They left with A Girls Name Here, their first EP. "The energy in the room is tingling as these guys slide from a gentle stroke to a sudden crash..." Rocketscience has excelled at winning over a crowd that has never heard them before. "RocketScience are at once catchy, kitchy, quirky, rocking, and fun." This is also true of their record, which has caught the eyes and ...

| | Jeff Bastardi Let Go Let God CD (2006)
Latin Hip Hop Hits
$5.99 Jeff Bastardi has been singing in bands ever since he can remember. He began singing in soul bands in Philadelphia when he was just 13 years old, moved on to the acoustic music of the 70s, Los Angeles and hard rock in the 80s, and Nashville, Tennessee for country rock in the 90s. He has always believed that God had a plan for him with his music, and 1995 he asked for His guidance. Almost instantly, his band broke up and he was left without music for a year...he thought it was over.Jeff turned his life over to God and again – almost instantly – God gave his music back to him in the form of the contemporary holiness music you will find on his CD -- Let Go, Let God. Jeff ...
