Don't Let Em Stop You album
$12.75 Two years in the making, and combining two of the best underground hip-hop artists of the early 2000s, this collaboration between MF Doom and Madlib has been appropriately dubbed MADVILLAINY. With both men known for their stunning soundscapes, rhyming skills, and schizophrenic personalities, the duo decided to have Madlib concentrate on the beats and let Doom handle the lyrics.
In mixing their comic-book-like personas, Madlib and Doom play to their nearly superhuman strengths; while some other collaborations of this caliber seems forced and lop-sided, there is absolutely no filler here--just undiluted beats and rhymes, best exemplified by the singles "America's Most Blunted" and "All Caps." Lib's inventive production leans towards the jazzy side of his repertoire, and Doom ...

Don't Let Em Stop You songs
$12.15 Given his associations with Def Jux's El-P and his 10-plus years as a presence in the rap underground, Murs has plenty of cred to his name. His 2006 release, MURRAY'S REVENGE, is one of his most assured, and finds the MC balancing between his experimental tendencies and more mainstream hip-hop ...

| | Jason Mraz Mr. A-Z CD (2005) (Import) Japan; Limited Edition
Don't Let Em Stop You songs
$48.85 On Jason Mraz's second studio album, the young Virginia-born singer/songwriter continues the loose, freewheeling pop/rock vibe established on his 2002 debut, WAITING FOR MY ROCKET TO COME. He's still the slightly mischievous boy-next-door, but here Mraz has a new sense of self-confidence, undoubtedly based on the success of his first album. Though it's usually left to hip-hop artists to boast about their lyrical prowess, Mraz does exactly that on the rap-inspired "Wordplay," an alternately soaring and frenetic track that focuses on his tongue-in-cheek turns of phrase. Later in the record, Mraz offers up a mellow, Santana-like tune, "Bella Luna" (which shines the spotlight on his high, clear vocal delivery), and the surprisingly caustic piano ballad "Please Don't Tell Her." Overall, however, Mraz sounds most comfortable in the John Mayer light-rock vein, as evinced by the buoyant opening number, "Life Is Wonderful," and the ...

Don't Let Em Stop You CD music
$9.19 U.K. house producer Matthew Herbert is perhaps most noted for his playful approach to digital sampling technology. Composing his songs using sounds as varied as kitchen utensils and human skin, Herbert has bridged the worlds of conceptual and populist art unlike any other musical artist. His 2006 effort, SCALE is an audacious pop album of quixotic proportions. Steeped in lush harmonies reminiscent of 1950s vocal jazz, Herbert and cohort Dani Siciliano wrap bitter political messages inside candy-coated lyrical double entendres. Underscoring a commitment to politics on a global scale, Herbert provides real-world context by sampling objects such as: coffins, gas pumps, and an RAF Tornado bomber. Such highbrow conceptual hijinks might leave the impression that SCALE is dry art-school fodder--but make no mistake, this is pure pop music. And while much of SCALE is worthy of filling more discerning DJ crates, it's the ...
