After winning over a legion of fans in Latin America and South America, Shakira became an international superstar with her third studio album and first English-language outing, LAUNDRY SERVICE. On LIVE & OFF THE RECORD, the Colombian vocalist performs several songs from that album, a few older hits, and an unexpected but surprisingly effective cover of the AC/DC classic "Back in Black."
Shakira's vigorous music is tailor-made for a live stadium setting, and this collection finds her combining glass-shattering wails reminiscent of Grace Slick and Alanis Morissette ("Ciega, Sordomuda") with a host of musical styles, ranging from Dave Matthews-esque, violin-driven boogie ("Underneath Your Clothes") to Siouxsie Sioux/Blondie-style new wave ("Objection"). In addition, the singer shows she is equally adept at sweeping power ballads, inspiring an audience of thousands to sing along with "The One." Sonically, this set hearkens back to classic live albums such as KISS's ALIVE II and Cheap Trick's LIVE AT BUDOKAN by including healthy doses of crowd noise and booming echo. Wildly energetic and loads of fun, LIVE & OFF THE RECORD will appeal to the Shakira faithful and curious listeners alike.
Recorded live between 2002 & 2003.

| | Klaus Nomi Simple Man CD (1982)
Live & Off The Record music CDs
$9.25 Eclectic pop singer Klaus Nomi blends classical, country, and standards in SIMPLE MAN. On this 12-track collection, the German artist performs "Ding Dong," his unique take on the classic song from "The Wizard of Oz."
Coming off such a left-field debut, it was up in the air as to what Klaus Nomi would do for a follow-up. That second album was Simple Man, and if listeners were unsure if the first album was a put-on, this one certainly didn't do much to clear things up. While the album starts out promisingly with an atmospheric fade-in followed by a hard dance number with the occasional Birthday Party-style guitar thrown in, the rest of the album did its damnedest to move the album's overall tone to one of self-parody. Could one really think any differently ...
